Sunset over MORIAH

Unforgettable Sunsets are not uncommon in Tobago, especially this one seen below in the Hills of Moriah. Maren wish she could paint what she saw, but Ani thought if she could, it would not seem real ... such is the beauty of sunsets in Tobago.
The NORTHSIDE ROAD is a Main Road that connects many colorful and uniquely cultured rural communities that give Tobago its identity.
The Communities accessed from this Road are MORIAH, CULLODEN, CASTARA, PARLATUVIER and light coverage of CHARLOTTEVILLE.
These communities are less frequented by the typical visitors that venture only as far as the built up tourist areas of Crown Point, Buccoo and Pleasant Prospect. And this is probably what adds to its mystique. We can safely say that it is a photographer's dream - as long as one does not point the camera in a local's direction... They don't like that very much in Tobago.

FOOTPRINTS ECO LODGE in CULLODEN

Picture
The place is far away in the middle of .... NOWHERE!!!
Where there is one road that leads in .... and one road Out ...
There is a Beach... with a healthy living Reef and a constant sound of wild birds that remind us that we are a part of a bigger eco-system.
We often forget when we are carrying about our day to day business, but here things are different - its a constant reminder.
Find out more about this Eco Resort here www.footprints-resort.com

ELLA and ASHLEY begin to LIME in Moriah Junction - TOBAGO STYLE
ok, a little Rant here - on CAT CALLS...
"psssst, Famalayyyy!!!"   "PSSSSSSSTTTT ... bAAABBBY!!!"  "swEEETNESS"  ... the list goes on.
It's a TOBAGONIAN'S Past time for sure - even more so than in Trinidad.
Sure its Rude, Degrading, and outright BoldFaced - But hey, we not gonna let that ruin our trip are we?
Here we show that we can "Lime" as well as any Tobagonian out there ... "Suit Yourself"

ORGANIC CUISINE
COCOA HOUSE Restaurant @ Footprints Eco Lodge in CULLODEN

Picture
Everything that is served in the Restaurant "Cocoa House" @ FOOTPRINTS, is grown on property organically. From the Peppers, Herbs and Spices to the Eggs and even the Meat - if Chicken or Duck.
We know because we witnessed this firsthand when we learned to make our very first Fish Brothe.

MORIAH Community OLDTIME WEDDING Rehearsal

We heard it from a Local that the Tobago Heritage Festival was just as meaningful to the local communities as it was for the Tourism.
It certainly brought the communities closer and we witnessed a genuine respect for community elders from the younger ones.
They all took part in the rehearsals of what was said to be a reinactment of yesterday's traditions.
Our single camera coverage was totally unexpected, but they eventually eased up and we were soon as good as invisible...

PANMAN Restaurant & Bar - The MORIAH Corner Shop

One of the many traditional Creole Breakfast dishes that can be prepared in Tobago is the BAKE and BULJOL.
The Bake is Fried Dough, and sometimes Roasted. The Buljol is Salted Fish mixed with Sweet peppers and Tomato for flavoring.
The PANMAN Restaurant had the time to show Lisa how it was done.

MUD OVEN in CASTARA

Picture
Some of Yesterday's Traditions - such as the Mud Oven, will never die. Probably because this Oven in Castara has the fasting selling, best tasting bread on the island.
Unfortunately they are only baking their bread twice a week and the system goes as follows: Order Bread in the morning, come back in the afternoon, then pay.
Arrive in the Evening, a little too late .... All the bread is SOLD OUT.
When it comes to buying bread in Castara, come with your A-GAME, Okay?

CASTARA BEACH & Fishing Community

Picture
Beautiful CASTARA!!!
Seems empty from this picture doesn't it? No, people were there ... lots of them infact.
View the images below ... still no one in sight? Well, many people were there ... photoshop? Nah, don't have the patience for that.
So what was the deal?
Well, umm, if you point a camera in someone's face in CASTARA, or anywhere else in Tobago, they might break your lens, or ... um, your face ... So think wisely before you act. A broken nose could be a lousy way of spending your vacation in Tobago.
And in all fairness to the Locals there, would you blame them for getting angry? How would you like to have someone snap a shot of you fishing in your underwear?

ASHLEY Learns to LIME in CASTARA
What's this whole "LIMING" hype all about anyway?
Could it be .... over rated? Find out here...

CHINIE'S CHINESE Food Restaurant @ CASTARA Beach

So this guy buys a business from another guy (allegedly) and says that the Sign has the wrong spelling on it. He is selling Chinese Food, and the sign say Chinie's Food.
But hey who cares?
We're in CASTARA, everyone's Hungry and we frankly don't care it was "Injun" Food...
This Chinie's Food Hits the frikkin spot...

ENGLISHMAN'S BAY in PARLATUVIER

Picture
This Bay is a really happening place on weekends - especially for those Crown Point Tourist who believe that they are venturing out really far.
Well in most cases, this is as far as they get.
The Craft here is not bad - but scout your items carefully - Don't let the vendor tell you what to buy... sometimes they are really pushy this way. Just stand your ground and say, "Homie, Chill... I got this one covered"

PARLATUVIER FISHING COMMUNITY & BEACH

Picture
If anyone ever told you that in PARLATUVIER, it was a ghost town, and there was absolutely NOTHING to do in this place ... well ... Don't fight it too much ok?
If you Really need that TIME OUT and PEACE and QUIET that you have longed for all your life ... then ... I think you just hit the JACKPOT .... seriously now. In Parlatuvier you couldn't get a more sound sleep.
So is there something worth telling you about? Ofcourse there is.
There are the People of Parlatulier.
If you do not interract with people in your travels, you will miss out on many basic joys in life.
Parlatuvier is no Different. The Treasure is in the hearts of the people...

Pepper Sauce in HERMITAGE

We were told "when in Hermitage, look for the Pepper Sauce vender there. It's insane!!!"
Well we found it. We bought 3 bottles and they were CHEAP - only 10 TT bucks for one. And LOTS of pepper sauce in there.
Well, I must confess - I don't know about "insane", BUT you can buy one because we did. My bottle sits in my fridge and I have been wary of it after being caught in Port of Spain looking for a Toilet and eventually pretented to be an "old boy" of C.I.C. to get one. I'll spare you the rest of the details, but Ani and Maren might have a different story to tell...

Whole Wheat Roti in CHARLOTTEVILLE

Okay, we were told about this place in Charlotteville where Roti was made. Thy said just ask for "JABBA", he makes the Roti.
Well we found the place and a lovely lady made us the famous Jabba Rotis. But something was different about it.
It contained some whole wheat in there, which is not normal because whole wheat does not do a very good job at holding things together.
What began as Roti ended up looking like Bussup Shut before long. You can only imagine... we know.
But hey, its not the same as anything else in Charlotteville that sells at tourist price, so by all means give it a try!!

Home Made Ice Cream in CHARLOTTEVILLE

Okay, So it's not the Best home made ice cream on the planet.
It's not the Best home made ice cream in the Tobago.
But it sure as hell is the Best, Most Explosive Tasting Home Made Ice Cream in CHARLOTEVILLE!!!
Don't just take our word for it..."when in Charlotteville..."
